| There are numerous factors that can
influence the outcome of a performance test, including how many (if any)
applications are running in the background, which drive is chosen as the
test drive, and so forth. For our Mt. Elbert performance test,
we chose to use its RAID configured drives as the focus
of this PC's design was to be able to perform non-linear video editing,
and hard drive performance is of paramount concern when capturing video. We
had 12 background tasks running at the time of this test, each related to
functions you'd more than likely see running on most anyone's PC at any
given time while they are using it in normal day-to-day activities. These
background tasks include APC's PowerChute, Symantec Personal Firewall,
Disk Detector, AntiVirus, Monitor Management, and the like. We used the Passmark Performance Test, Vs 3.5 for our testing, and downloaded results for other PCs from their web site including the Dell Dimension and Gateway Pentium 4 results. I've included their results here for comparison purposes. Please note that these particular PCs against which we are comparing Mt. Elbert are running CPU speeds of 1.8-GHz. Our Mt. Elbert is running at 2.4-GHz, so we're not exactly comparing apples to apples. However, what this test does do is to show you where you can go with current technology, and how well Mt. Elbert does perform using that technology. You may note that our Gainward nVIDIA GeForce4 TI4400 is tuned for best 3D graphic performance at some expense to 2D performance. This comparison is relative. I don't believe you would even notice any degradation in 2D performance while running any of your 2D-dependant applications. See the 2D test results below if you have any doubt. Other video cards are tuned to perform best with 2D results, at the expense of 3D. For additional information from Gainward relating to this video card, Click HERE. I'm sorry, but we haven't yet found a way to demo online the quality of sound coming from Mt. Elbert's Creative Labs Audigy Platinum audio card and their Inspire 5.1 speaker system! That you'll have to hear for yourself! We can, however, provide you with specifications and links to additional information from Creative Labs. Click HERE to go there. We've provided you with this information to save you some time doing the amount of research we've done, and to help you pick products for your PC. Obviously we can bear no responsibility with how these products perform in your system. We do back them up in ours! Can we build YOU a custom PC?
